FIFA World Cup Soccer Finals: Canada to Host 2030

World Cup 2010 Comments Off on FIFA World Cup Soccer Finals: Canada to Host 2030

Speculation is mounting that Canada is preparing a bid for the soccer FIFA World Cup Finals in 2030.

Venues under consideration include Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Victoria, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and potentially Halifax.

John Furlong CEO of the Vancouver Winter Olympics denies he has been in talks with a syndicate led by future MLS franchise and Vancouver Whitecaps owner Greg Kerfoot.

Sources close say "It is highly inappropriate to discuss this on the opening day of World Cup 2010 and no comment will be made until after FIFA decides on the host for the 2018 World Cup".

England are heavily favoured to win the 2018 bid, which will be announced December this year although the United States is also a candidate. Brasil hosts 2014.

North & Central American countries (CONCACAF) have hosted the FIFA World Cup three times, Mexico in 1970 and 1986 while the United States last hosted in 1994.

Canada has only once qualified to play in the FIFA World Cup Finals.
