FIFAntasy: It’s Official: the World Cup is now a Circus
“Rugby is a beastly game played by gentlemen; soccer is a gentleman’s game played by beasts….”
Honour is a word used in soccer more by its fans than its players. But from the country where I come where rugby is played, there is more of a code of conduct that is maintained by players. It is regarded ‘unmanly or unprofessional’ to show weakness or cheat. It is not considered the honourable thing to do. In the early days, any disciplinary matters would be dealt out by players during the game, and that was that. So where is the dignity and honour in feigning injury to get a free kick or trying to get your opponent sent off? Why do we bother parading the yellow ‘Fair Play’ flag out before every World Cup game when there is ever the intend to honour it? It could be said that we live in an age of entitlement, where we get not we truly deserve or earn, but what we can get away with. No wonder we have a world side credit situation. FIFA’s inability to manage the rules during the course of the game is the problem. If players know they can ‘con’ a ref, they will do it. There is too much at stake not to. Technology is showing players, coaches and teams to be acting like spoilt children, as liars and cheats, because their ‘parents’ are not controlling them. The Fanscont.
